Pics!! And life and stuff.

This week has been pretty...interesting? Hahaha so on Saturday President Martino was up in Baler for a meeting. On his way back to the Tarlac-side of the mission, he took me with him. We went to Cabanatuan first, because we also had the sister training leaders with us, and then to Tarlac. From Tarlac we went to Angeles City, and from there I met with the Assistants to the President and went back to stay the night with them Saturday. Sunday morning I went to church with the Assistants and then traveled up to Camiling with Elder Taylor, who is my companion until Wednesday because his companion is also in Manila. So I am with another Arizonan (he's from Queen Creek), and it is kinda weird! Hahaha I'm used to being with a Pinoy! On Wednesday, the zone leaders from Baler will meet with me in Tarlac and we'll take the six-hour bus ride from Tarlac-side back over to Baler. So yeah!! I've been pretty much everywhere in the Angeles Philippines mission now! Hahaha it's been fun, but I'm excited to get back to work in my area, with my trainee. They haven't been able to find any problems with him yet, so I probably won't see him for at least another few days. If they do find something, and he needs surgery it might be another week or so. This week has just been kind of hectic. It's nice though because I can actually get some things I need and stuff because there are actual stores here! Hahaha Baler is prettttty remote.

As for rainy season, it ends sometime in November, so there will probably continue to be typhoons and stuff until then. And as for our apartment in Baler, it is actually very nice! We have a hot shower, which is the best thing ever invented. And it's actually like three stories. On the bottom level there's a bakery, and then the top two floors are our apartment.

So please know that I am doing well. I am staying alive! Hahaha I miss you guys all so much. I have a few more pictures to send. I hope you like these ones. The thing I'm riding on is a carabao, which is like a water buffalo. The farmers use them for working in the rice fields. Anyways, I love you all! Please be safe, girls read your scriptures and say your prayers ;)

Love,

Elder Rand

So this is me and Elder Cadizal (my zone leader) and Elder Gapor (my district leader). We worked in a suppper beautiful area in the mountains, called Bazal. Hahahah the second picture looks like we're dancing, but that's just when we were trying to get the timing right for the self-timer! Hahaha Elder Gapor looks like he's doing ballet or something lol

This is my friend. I haven't named him yet. Yep we fed him Onion Rings. Hahaha he was so hungry, I don't think his owners feed him very well. I don't know if you can tell in the close-up picture, but his cheeks were stuffed! HAhahaha

No pictures :(

Hello family!

So this week has been pretty interesting..my anak, my 'son' or trainee, found out he has a hernia. So he is back in Maynila getting treated over there. He'll probably be out for a week or so, so it's challenging. I'm back with the zone leaders again, and we have to cover two areas now. So it's going to get a little but hectic.

The area here is awesome, in my area we have a lot of just pure jungle, and then there are little jungle paths to tiny villages in the jungle. We actually go over there quite a bit because there are a few less-actives and investigators there! Last night was a little bit sketchy haha, me and my companion were out in the bukid until maybe 8 o'clock and it was so dark in the jungle and I forgot a flashlight! So we were using a little built-in like 1.5 lumen flashlight on our cell phone trying to hike through a muddy jungle in pitch-black darkness. Hahaha it was fun :)

My trainee's name is Elder Ofiana, and he's Ilocano! So I've been trying to learn a bit from him, get back to my roots ;) Hahaha as for Tagalog, it has been coming along a lot better lately. I pretty much woke up one morning and that day started understanding the grammar principles and things I have been studying the last six months. It just came together all of a sudden! It was nuts, but there are still a lot of things I need to study to be completely comfortable with it.

There have been a lot of cases of dengue lately, I actually am guilty..I haven't been wearing insect repellant. But I will start! We use permethrin in our apartment so we're pretty safe there. As for food and stuff here, they have coconut plantations here, so there are literally fields of thousands of coconut trees, so we eat and drink a LOT of buko here, which I will definitely miss it when I come home. Mangoes are out of season right now :( So hopefully sometime in february, march-ish they will come back! I cannot wait hahahaha ;) The beach is amazing, definitely learning to surf when I get back. Everytime we go and the weather is nice, there are surfers just stretched out in a line as far as you can see. I guess in September they have a competition here in Baler that's supposed to be really cool to watch. Like pro-surfers from all over the Philippines come here.

I forgot to tell you guys this but for the family home evening I had when I first got here, the senior couple took us to the beach and we released floating lanterns over the ocean. It didn't work too well because it was windy, but we're doing it again sometime soon when my trainee gets back from Maynila. It was still a cool experience!

So anyways, any news about the temple in Tucson? When's the groundbreaking? That would be so cool to go to, see if the Prophet comes down to Tucson :D How are you all? It sounds like life is pretty busy for you all.

Anyways, I hope this email gives you guys a little bit of an idea what it's like here. I realized I've been very vague in describing my areas! Hahaha I'm sorry, I tried to describe it a bit better this email. Anyways, I love and miss you all so much! Please be safe this week, I'm always praying for you guys.

Typhoon

Hey mom and dad! So we've been in a typhoon since yesterday, and this one has hit us pretty hard. It took a lot to get to this computer hahaha! Last night felt like we were all going to die, the wind and rain was intense. We actually didn't sleep at all last night. The sister missionaries kept calling us, asking if everyone was okay and stuff, and then we found out one of the sister companionships was actually packing their bags in preparation to go to the mission home. Man it was nuts. It's still raining outside, it hasn't stopped now for something like 24 hours. But that's rainy season in the Philippines!

So I haven't gotten my new comp. yet. He'll be coming in on the 14th. I guess he got chicken pox while in the MTC so he's late coming in. I'm excited to train though, but it is going to be stressful opening a new area. It's been a lot of preperation, just basically trying to talk to everyone we meet everywhere to get investigators in our new area. Ahhh it's going to be a rough few weeks trying to get our work up to the standards of excellence. But I know we can do it too.

So mom, I have a few stores in this area. Not too many. The ZL's get the mail from the AP's every few weeks. We also get the Liahona so you don't have to worry about sending me those. Uhmm...yep. Do you need to know anything else? I'm sorry I'm really bad at answering your questions I usually forget hahaha!

Dad, that's really cool you're doing El Tour! You excited? And gosh I can't even tell you how bad I want to go hunt or camp or SOMETHING! Haha man, and then we go to the beach as often as we can, and there are always people surfing there. Definitely on my to-do list when I get back: "Learn to surf" hahaha ;)

Anyways, that's all I have for this week...pretty lame I'm sorry! But! I hope you guys like the pics! I love you all so much, thank you for all you do.

Mahal ko kayo!

So these are just a few pics from my new area! The beach, some little monkey that we found. Yep. It's a party here! ;)

So these are some of the fruits I eat! The first one I can never remember the name, it sounds like rumpelstiltskin or something. The second one is called dragonfruit and is supppper delicious!

Picture from Gapan Zone Conference

Here's a picture from Gapan Zone Conference, shortly before Kendric got transferred. We downloaded this from Elder Jordan Royal's blog (http://elderjordanroyal.blogspot.com/), he's the one in the top left of the picture. Thanks Elder Royal and family (and thanks to Elder Bell's father for pointing us to the picture)!

Transfer! Beach!

Family! So life's been pretty exciting for me lately! I did in fact get transferred last week. Again. Hahaha BUT I am in Baler Zone, one of two zones that has beach :) The natives call this area "paraiso" or paradise in English. I actually don't have an official companion right now, so I am in a threesome companionship with my zone leaders here. It is really cool, Elder Cadizal, the Pinoy ZL was my ZL in Paniqui zone. So I am learning from them right now until hopefully next week my companion will arrive from the MTC. Yep! I'm training! And my trainee and I will be opening a new area in Maria Aurora. I am so excited! Baler zone is the most jungly area in the mission. There are some areas where it looks like they could've filmed Jurassic Park or Lost or something here. Today, we're having family home evening as a zone on the beach. I am so stoked! The thing about this area though, it is very remote. VERY remote. It was a four and a half hour bus ride through jungle-mountains to get here. So the internet here is super slow, I can't really send any pics today because I need to change the settings on my camera to make the file size smaller. But next week I promise I will have some sweet pics :) And I'm sorry this is so late! We had no electricity for a few hours here. Anyways, I have a bit of time, so I'll try responding to your emails individually now. I love you all!
