Doing great!

Good morning family!

So it sounds like you guys are doing well! Mom, you sound a lot less stressed now girl's camp is done! And dad, it sounds like your life isn't too busy lately? I hope not. I am really, really grateful for you both, and for all you do for me. I love you!

So I am doing great here. I love this area, the people, the landscape, everything. Mom I was in the canoe because that's how we travel to one of our areas! :) And yes I am eating well here. I actually cook for my companion and me! So that's pretty cool, I've gotten pretty good at cooking Pinoy food ;) Transfer day is this Thursday, so we'll see what happens! Kind of anxious for this one, hehe.

I hope you guys are doing well. I miss you all so dang much. So the pictures are in front of some palayans that are just starting to grow. Please know that I am working hard here, and staying healthy and alive! ;) I love you all, family! Mahal ko kayo!

Your Son and Brother,

Elder Rand

{Dad's note: The letter this week is a little short, because Kendric wanted one experience just shared with the family. He's doing great, though, and is really growing in the Gospel, and as you can see from above, he is sounding very happy.}

The Power of the Priesthood

Fam-fam!

It was awesome hearing from you all, thanks :) Mom that was an awesome story you wrote to me, about how this life is just a speck in the eternal perspective. And seriously, lately I've been thinking about how fast this life is going to go by...like, two years is nothing! Ahhh does it seem fast to you guys, looking back at your lives? Thanks for your strength mom :) I love and appreciate you soo much!

Dad, that's so sweet you're going to Defcon again! Ahhh I really want to get into a job field like you. And that's cool the missionaries gave you a blessing for your sickness! Speaking of which..

This week we had a manifestation of just how real the Authority we hold is. So last Sunday we went to an investigator's house. She had a sister there who was really, really sick, and pregnant, and she was like "Hey, last week you taught me Joseph Smith had the Power of God restored to him. You guys hold that too don't you? Could you heal my sister?" We answered, we can, but she needs to have faith necessary to be healed. So we went into this woman's room, and explained who we are, what we do, and the purpose of our calling, and that we hold the Priesthood of God, the same power that existed in the church when Christ taught in His personal ministry. The same power he gave to his Apostles. And so she was like "I know you can heal me". We gave her a blessing. The Spirit was sooo strong. We returned two days after and she was up and about, and perfectly fine. She had just gotten back from a doctor's appointment who told her that somehow, miraculously, she was healed! After that we started teaching her, and at the end she said "You men truly hold Power from God." It was just like "BAM!" I can't help but think of the scripture in Alma 26:12, the one that should be on my plaque:

12 Yea, I know that I am anothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will bnot boast of myself, but I will cboast of my God, for in his dstrength I can do all ethings; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.

Truly we are nothing without Him, but with Him all things are possible. It was such a fantastic experience! Man...so anyways, that was my experience this week. Thanks for all of your love and support! I love and miss you all sooo much. Please tell Aleigha that she needs to be confident in herself, because she is truly beautiful and fun to be around! :) I love you all!

Mahal Ko Kayo,

Elder Kendric Rand ;)

Kumusta naman kayo?

Magandang tanghali po, galing sa Pilipinas!

Hahaha, how are you guys?? So I guess mom is at camp now right? And Aleigha too? Maile, HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!!!! How old will you be??? Like 11?? 10?? Weirdddd....how's school going for you? Oh!! Are you excited for Gaslight?? Let me know how that is!! :D Oh, and Happy 4th of July, 'Murica!!! Hahaha me and the other Americano's went out and bought..."hamburgers"....they weren't really burgers though. It was weird meat stuff on weird bread stuff with weird sauce stuff ;) hahaha and super tiny. But still! We did what we could with what we had ;)

So yesterday I got to name and bless a child! Sa Tagalog! Hahaha it was a really cool experience, but I was sooo nervous about it. I did okay, mixed a little English with the Tagalog, but people still understood it. The little girl was so cute though, and it was such an awesome experience.

Also yesterday, we got into our first Bible debate! Hahaha the old man didn't stand a chance. We smashed him. ;) Hahaha just kidding, but seriously he was just a sour old man bashing our religion. And we would not stand for it, so we whipped our Bibles out and countered everryyy single argument against us. We did it very peacefully too, but the guy just kept getting angrier and angrier! He finally just stopped talking and stewed in his seat, huffing and puffing. It was kind of scary but I guess a good experience too, at least to be introduced to encounters like that.

It's so exciting to see the work that is going forth! All the people in our stake out serving, it's weird! But really cool too hahaha :) Oh, and Kimo emailed me this week, so that was really nice hearing from him. Has he found out where he'll be stationed yet?

Dad that's cool you're getting to see some pretty exotic places! What're you going to be doing in Singapore? And that's soo cool you're going to Defcon and Blackhat again. Speaking of which..what do you think would be the best career field to go in for computer sciences? I've kinda gotten super interested in computers and technology, and I was thinking the other day about a cool career. I dunnnoooo...I guess it's still a ways off, but if you have any council or wisdom to impart, I appreciate it! Love you dad :)

So I have a bundle of letters ready to be sent to you guys, but we haven't found the friggin' post office yet! We are going to go explore the city today, so hopefully we can find it ;)

So I attached a few pics from our baptism! Three of the five were baptized, the other two's parents wouldn't allow them to be baptized :( But we're going to start teaching their parents hopefully this week! We'll see how it goes. I haven't taken my camera out a whole lot this week because it's a bit of a hassle with all the rain. But I am trying! Sorry for the lack of pictures, I really am :( Haha but in one of the pics the girl is like "I feel like we're wearing karate uniforms!" and so that's why she posed like that lol. And in the picture with the dude making slippers, I helped make some of those!! Awww yeah son, I got to cut out the soles and stuff. It was pretty fun :)

This week's letter, sorry for the delay

Hahaha hello family! :) First off parents, thank you for all you have done for me. I am so eternally grateful for you guys. If that sounds insincere it is not meant to be, I mean it in every way possible.

So I'm sorry I have my camera, but no card reader so I can't send pictures :( Blahh...

And yes, that is sooo cool about Shelbi's call!!! Holy cow, I am soo excited for her!!! Hey did you guys get to watch the broadcast? I still haven't seen it because it got cancelled because of the typhoon. But our mission pres. told us the highlights. Apparently, by 2014 (I think the end of the year for us here in the Phls.) every companionship is going to have an ipad or iphone, and be using facebook and blogs to communicate and invite people to come unto Christ. Weird!! But honestly, this should change a LOT about missionary work. Every aspect of it will be changed, and it should be a lot more effective in my opinion.

Anywayyy, so this week has been great! My comp and I have been on fire, we taught 47 lessons this week, and should have five baptisms this Saturday!! It should be seven, but two of the girls we have been teaching, their parents are opposed to them being baptized. :( So we are still trying to persuade their parents...we will see.

We are also almost done with a typhoon that has been dumping rain on us since Saturday night. Yeah. It has not been fun ;) But at the same time, we had three eating appointments yesterday, we feasted like kings! Hahaha :) The city is nice because it is super cheap to live here, and yet we still have cool areas in the bukid.

But how is the fam-fam?? That's cool you guys are going to Gaslight! That should be awesome, what is the play based off of? Tallen and Crystal sent me a package I got the other day, so please tell them thanks for me! At least until I can write them and tell them myself. How's J and Paul? Haven't heard too much from them, or Caitlin. And Kimo too. Man I miss him. I'll send him an email today if I can.

Well, I hope you guys are enjoying life. Mom, hope girl's camp will be fun! Hahaha ;) Dad that's pretty cool you're doing a project in Mexico, are you traveling there or will it be over communications? Ugh that's ugly English, I mean like calls and email and stuff. Hahaha

Well hey, I love and miss you all! Hang in there, peace ;)

Love,

Elder Rand
