Sr. Companion :)

It was a nice surprise to get this letter from Kendric's mission president tonight. A little surprising since he's only been in the Philippines for about 3 months, but I think this speaks well to his obedience...

Transferred!! Swindled again ;)

Hahaha just kidding about the title of this email, but I missed Fred's baptism!! So yes I got transferred, my new area is awesome though! Absolutely love it here, and my new companion is amazing. So my new area is called Cabiao, and it is the exact opposite of where I was before. Moncada, my previous area, was mainly bukid, orrr like jungle/farmland and so it was really undeveloped. But here, I am in the middle of a huge city! And we have stores here where you can get like, anything! Ahh it is so cool. But at the same time it's a bit harder to teach here. Our ward has about the same weekly attendance as Moncada's ward, which means there are A LOT of less-actives here. But at the same time, we have a lot of bukid here too, albeit far away. There is one barangay we can only get to by crossing a river on a canoe!! How cool is that??? But anyways, enough about me. ;)

How was talking to Kimo?? I STILL HAVEN'T HEARD FROM HIM :( How is that guy??

Hahaha so did you guys read the email Maile sent me?? Holy cow I was laughing so hard the entire time. Maile, thank you so much for making me happy!! You are so cute!! Hahaha I'm sorry you guys are getting rid of Bolt, but I know mom and dad are probably a lot happier ;)
So if you want cheap stuff, you buy the imitation stuff here. But the imitation stuff is sooo funny. I saw an Aeropostale shirt the other day that said "Est. 1752" hahahaha Aeropostale is so hipster! ;)

Uhhmmm..what else...oh! So I rode a tricycle on the roof the other day. Kinda sketchy, we were going through the bukid so the road was all bumpy and scary hahaha.

Yeah this week was kinda ehhh because of transfers, but I am excited to be here. My new companion is sooo  nice. But I'm putting in some pics, my last day in Paniqui zone. Hope ya like 'em! :) The one with me in a tree is me fishing for frogs! Hahaha the members know how to cook them so we went out on P-day and went frog fishing. Or frogging? I dunno...hahaha love you all! Thank you sooo much for your love and support!

Pix from transfer day

Here are a few pix that Sis. Martino posted today. We're pretty sure these are from transfers...

What Up Chooks to Go??

Heyyy family!!

So first off, Happy Anniversary/Dad's Birthday/Father's Day!!! Whoo hoo! Dad, mom said you're 51 now. What the.... ;) hahaha just kidding!! But that is friggin' old. How was your Father's Day? And your guys' anniversary? How long have you been married now?

This week has been pretty cool! I found out I might be a trainer this upcoming Wednesday, and/or I might get transferred. So that's exciting! It'll be weird training a Pinoy though because usually they don't speak Tagalog if they're from a different part of the Philippines. Haha so yeah..but it might not happen. We'll see!

So this week I tried balut, but gave up when it got to eating the actual bird. I was on exchanges with Elder Bell and he took the whole baby duck and stuck it all in his mouth, and he had feathers stuck in his teeth and stuff, so I just didn't even try..hahaha :P Maybe later in my mission! We had a feast of Chooks to Go though, which is a little stand on the side of the road that sells rotisserie chickens. Soooo good hahaha. And the name is just awesome ;)

So Fred is still on track to be baptized, this Saturday! Elder Bell did the interview with him (that's why we did exchanges) on Friday, and he did awesome. He's such a good guy. I hope he serves a mission one day because he's astig. We also just gave a baptismal date to Sister Joyce, who is sooooo prepared. She thought we said June 20 instead of July 20th and she was like "Okay I'm ready!". Hahaha she goes to church every week, and even went to Paniqui yesterday for stake conference (which was awesome). So we're excited about her too. The Marcos family all keep their commitments, except for church. Their dad works all day at the market and so they don't have a ride to church so we're still trying to figure that out.

That's cool you have good missionaries now it sounds like! Ask the Tongan elder if he knows Elder Vaitai or Elder Faka'osita. Vaitai is home now because of his brain cancer, but Faka'osita is in the same zone as me and doing well.

Hahaha! So I rode a bus yesterday. The thing about buses here is they are the most aggressive vehicle on the road. And so yesterday, the driver is bookin' it. Like, at least 70 mph down the expressway, which is FLYING here, and he's swerving in and out of traffic and I just couldn't help but feel like I was on the Knight Bus! Haha it was awesome! We'd hit a bump and people would fly up out of their seats and act like nothing happened! Hahaha it was crazy!

So yup, that's my week. Pretty average. I'm sorry my emails are getting more and more boring. But I do have a few letters I'm going to try to send to you soon! I love you all so much. Thank you all for your support and love! Be safe :)

Paalam sa Inyong Lahat,

Elder Rand :)

So this might be the only picture(s?) I get to send today, we're in Moncada right now and the internet here is sooo slow. I don't even know if this one will work. But next week hopefully we'll be in Paniqui, but we'll see. So this is me and Elder Olila, we did exchanges which was cool. The other one is in a village that's free housing that we were proselyting in. I have no idea why they have an American astronaut statue there but it was pretty cool hahaha ;) The girl working with us is Sis. Jenylnn and she just got baptized like a month ago so it's pretty cool she is confident enough to work with us. Her cousin, the guy taking the picture is prepping for a mission which is awesome. They are all from Branch 2, whereas my area is Ward 1.

Good Morning Starshine..the Earth Says Hello!

Hoy Pamilya Ko!
Haha, sooo I guess to translate all of that (I read in Preach My Gospel to write letters and stuff in your new language to learn faster ;P) it says...
Hi family!
How are you? I hope well. It's difficult sometimes being here, but happy also. So, this week was awesome! Many new investigators, and Bro. Alfred is preparing for baptism on June 22nd now, because we have Stake Conference on June 15th. I am sooooo excited, and last night we met three new investigators. Bro Jun, our ward mission leader, worked with me yesterday (we did splits) and he is so prepared to serve.
Sooo I am really impressed with the progress Bro. Alfred has made. He is ex- Iglesia ni Cristo, which is a church that hates LDS. Their founder was a member, who wanted to become an apostle, but when rejected started this church. Then when he died his son corrupted it. Only the leaders, the "learned" can read from the scriptures, they read out loud at the pulpit if you don't pay your tithing, their church building are modeled after the Salt Lake Temple, and they believe if you listen to Mormon missionaries you will be burned by hellfire. So really, it is cool to be able to teach one of their members, and the strength he has amidst persecution from his peers.
Ano pa...what else...Oh! I did get letters from the Porters and Anne Bingham! Please tell them thank you sooo much and I will write letters back today if I have time! I have not received the package from you guys yet, but hopefully this week.
That sounds sooo fun, your guys' trip to San Diego. I really miss going to the temple...we were so spoiled in the MTC, going every week. Ahh I miss it.
Dad, that's sweet you're still working with the Church! Good luck on your talk too! I'm glad you had fun vacationing, and that your knee didn't give you too much trouble it sounds like.
Mom that's cool you got to see all your family again! That's a bummer about nana and grandpa though...And really weird about Caitlin getting married! What the..?? Where's my invitation!! ;) How's J-smell? Where is Paul going to Europe? England? France? That's pretty cool. And Kimo! What the heck?? What is going on with him?? I've heard nothing! Haha tell him to write me please!! Does he even use email anymore? Sayang..
That's cool you guys saw pics of me at Zone Conference! That was my first one since being here, and my companion's last ;P Crazy, he goes home in September! We get along really well now, it was a little rough at first but we work well together now, and I've learned a lot from him.
So I love you all sooo much! Parents, I am sooo grateful for you, and all you have done and continue to do for me. Thank you..I mean it. Mahal ko kayo pamilya! Be safe, have fun, but seriously please wait for me to go to San Diego again ;) ;) Joke lang!
Mahal Kita,
Elder Rand

June 2nd

Hello Fam-fam!

Ahhh dad I got your picture from Havasupai! That looks like soooo much fun!! Freaking jealousss hahaha! Aleigha I'm pretty friggin' proud of you for doing that hike, dang! Hahaha just FYI all of the pinoy's here think you are napakaganda, or super beautiful. So have confidence in yourself! ;)

How was Cali?? That's sweet you went kayaking in the ocean!! How was that? Man, I am so excited to do stuff like that again..But! I am very happy here :) Really, the work here is going forward. It was a super hard week, and up until yesterday our numbers were really down. But yesterday we did splits and got our numbers up, and we got a few new investigators this week we are really excited about. It was hard splitting because I was with a pinoy who didn't know any English, and so I didn't understand a lot of what was said and I got made fun of a lot, but I was able to fulfill my purpose and teach the gospel. The best part of this week though was teaching the Marcos family. They have a family friend who is blind, she is I think 12 years old, and then kids in the Marcos family are all from like 7-13 years old, and they actually keep commitments!! It is so exciting haha. Alfred will be baptized on the 15th sana, or hopefully.

So I don't really have any new stories this was kind of just a long week, and I'm glad it's over. Sorry I don't have much time today, but I really love you all soo much. I hope you are all staying safe and strong. Dad that's gnarly about your toe at Havasupai! Haha well I hope you all had fun on your vacay, and that's cool you got to see all the siblings! Kimo still hasn't written me, how's he doing? Tell Cait not to get married until I get back!!

Mahal Kita,

Elder Rand

This is at Elder Olila's b-day bash ;)
